Saint Mark's Preschool is closed for eight standard holidays each year, a couple of days for maintenance, cleanup, teacher-in-service, two and a half days at Thanksgiving, plus Good Friday/Easter Week and for a week or so at Christmas, depending on what day of the week Christmas falls.
Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for children and their families to celebrate at Saint Mark's together.
Open House (March or April)
Our Open House is a Spring event on a Friday afternoon. We welcome families who are looking for a preschool for their child but have not enrolled yet to come and visit the classrooms, meet the lead teachers and get more information. We provide snacks and activities for your children in all classrooms. Please look out for details in the spring.
Mother's Day and Father's Day (May and June)
We celebrate Mother's Day with "Muffins with Mom" in May, and celebrate Father's Day with "Donuts with Dad" in June. We invite you to come into the parish hall before you drop your child off for the day, and enjoy refreshments. This takes places between 7:30 am and 9:30 am. Please check calendar and weekly emails for specific dates each year.
Pre-K Celebration (May)
Right before the beginning of the Summer months we have a special celebration of our time with our Pre-K students who will be entering Kindergarten at some point during the summer. Parents and other family members gather in the church courtyard, the children sing a song or two, we hear from their teachers and we all have an opportunity to wish them well knowing how much we will miss them. Each child is handed a certificate to celebrate their time in the Pre-K year at the preschool.
Back to School Social Picnic (September)
Shortly after the beginning of our new school year is our Back to School Picnic. This is not your typical program type Back to School event: there are no speeches or presentations, but a time for refreshments and to get to know your child's school, his or her teachers, the administrative staff and the vestry of Saint Mark's who is our board. There are activities for the kids and a chance to play on our play yards. It is also a great chance to meet other families at the preschool. Please look out for details closer to the time.
Blessing of the Animals (October)
We celebrate the feast of Saint Francis with a special service on a Saturday morning early October to honor our animal friends. Our very own preschool chaplain, Mother Andrea officiates, accompanied by her dog, Lizzie. Bring your pet, a photograph of your pet, a photograph of a pet you would like to have or a stuffed animal to the service. This is a very fun and kid friendly event as we get the chance to honor and show thanks for our special pet friends. All furry, spiky, slimy, feathery friends great and small are welcome--just make sure they are on a leash or secured safely!
Christmas Cookie Party (December)
Right before our Christmas break we invite you to come and spend some time in the morning with your child before drop off to start the Christmas spirit. As you are bringing your child to school, come first to the parish hall for a delicious cup of hot chocolate and a festive cookie, enjoy fellowship with other families, and the joy of Christmas carols being played on piano by our talented Organist and Choirmaster Ron Barnett.
